Rio Sonora Outfitters welcomes you to the world of Trophy Coues Whitetail and Gould's Turkey Hunting in Sonora and Chihuahua, Mexico. We feel that there is no other place in the world like Mexico to pursue trophy quality Coues Whitetail or a longbeard Gould's Turkey.
The deer were in great physical condition this year and the antler growth improved overall from the past season. If we finish off the spring on a wet note and the monsoons produce again this year, I expect to see large antlers on the desert again for 2008/09.
The members of RSO had the fortunate opportunity to meet new friend again this season and had the pleasure of seeing old friends return to the field as well, making a rewarding hunt for all. It wouldn't be hunting if we didn't have to put up with WIND, and we all did. All bad weather aside we took several good bucks including a few great ones. The Welker's have become friends to all of us, and this year Brian invited his sons Kyle and Daniel on the hunt, which took place in January. As luck would have it, Kyle connected big-time on an old bruiser of a buck. Guide, Victor Almada glassed up this non-typical at daybreak and guide Martin Guerena put Kyle back on the buck that evening just before dark. Kyle quickly added the finishing touch from 350 yards!
Once again this season, like last, got off to a great start. A couple of old friends, Kevin and Mike Kearney kicked off the start of the season with a pre-rut hunt and as luck would have it Kevin connected on his second BC buck in back to back seasons! The 2008 spring turkey season in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Chihuahua, Mexico is about finished up and we had another super year. We have a full plate of turkey hunting coming up soon so check back in a few weeks for the update. Our season went well in 2007, with 46 birds taken by 42 hunters! There are allot of birds on the property we hunt and this year we have new ranch to break in, so stay tuned!
I want to extend another "Thank You" to all the guides and the great group of hunters we had again this past season. We are already looking forward to next season!

Richard Tharp of "Stepping Outdoors" with one of his two birds and RSO's "2006 Bird of the Year". This bird is the NEW, NON-TYPICAL - WORLD RECORD taken with a Knight muzzeloader. This bird was taken off our La Mesa Ranch and sports three beards, that totals nearly 20", and an overall score of 70.

Kirk Ebarb, Owner of River City Outdoors TV took this great longbeard on our La Mesa Ranch. This big old bird supports a 10-3/4" beard, 1" and 7/8" spurs, and weighed in at 24-1/2 lbs. What a bird for Kirk and RSO's "2007 Bird of the Year". Congratulations Kirk!
In addition to this bird, Kirk took another great bird with his Mathews bow. Both birds will be on one of his upcoming TV shows along with another kill he was able to get on film.

Kyle Welker from Sugarland, Texas with his first Coues Whitetail and RSO's " 2008 Buck of the Year". This 10+ year old non-typical buck carries great mass, drop-tines and grosses 119-7/8".

The 2008 RSO "Bird of the Year" was taken by Doug Spencer, a dedicated archery hunter from Loveland, Colorado. This is not just any old turkey, Doug's bird is the new pending NEW WORLD RECORD ARCHERY GOULD'S overall NWTF score!
Doug and his hunting partner, Dan Lee, from Haugton, LA was in the Double Bull blind for only a few minutes on the first evening on the ranch when Doug planted this bird, and 30 minutes later Dan connected on his bird in the same spot! What a hunt guys, and concratulations on your accomplishments!
